Sunday 13th July 2023.Malc and I had planned to fish a few weeks ago, fortunately Malc organised us a spot of fishing at Riverfalls. I agreed to meet Malc there for 9:00am, fortunately we had good weather and the river looked good.
I began by using a float fished fly spoon to see if I could entice any perch, this did not happen straight away, so I resorted to using spinning rod, casting from the salmon ladder, the flow seemed a little to pacey so I tried other spots, going back to using float fishing with the fly spoon again with three maggots attached. Eventuality I did managed to catch a few Perch, four with the last Perch around 12oz.
River Perch are a far better colour compared to stillwater Perch.
There getting bigger.
This was the the larger of the Perch.
After lunch we adopted different areas and methods, I fished the Hatch pool with the float rod and Malc fishing the Mill Pool with the leger.
I proceeded on using the float catching Roach, Dace and Chub, I then went to the otherside of sluice, above the Hatch Pool to try and catch some Bream that were there in a eddy. Not the intended species but I managed to latch onto some nice trout, one, a reasonable sized Brown Trout, then a smaller Brown Trout and then a large Rainbow Trout just shy of 5lb.
Roach caught from the Hatch Pool
Perch from the Hatch Pool
Nice Chub from the pool
My somewhat tired and tatty Rainbow Trout just short of 5lb
I gave the tackle wallet an outing today.
Malc started by fishing on the float in the usual places catching all sorts a fish including Dace, Brown Trout, Chub, Perch and Roach, this he did for much of the day fishing at different pegs around and on the river complex.
Malc legering the Hatch Pool
A very nice Dace
Malc did well on the leger, catching some very nice fish a large Chub of about 3lb, an absolutely superb Bream of 4lb 13oz (as seen above) and to top it all, near the end of the day he picked up a beautiful Perch just shy of 2lb in the Hatch Pool
A great looking well deserved Perch for Malc on legered Maggot
Fin perfect!
That excellent Bronze Bream, again caught on the leger.
Some of the fish caught by Malc during the day around Riverfalls.

With in the grounds or Riverfalls I came across either a hatched or predated Grey Heron's egg beneath a tree, whether or not had been picked up and dropped there I don’t know. There is a resident Heron that presides in the grounds which has been given the name Mr. Burns from the character out of The Simpsons, for obvious reasons.
After taking the picture I collected the remains of the egg and put it in an unused bait box to take home.
All and all it was a very relaxing day and good company as always. Big thanks to Steve and Malc for a wonderful day.
